Fancy clothes and quality threads are important, but in my opinion, they aren’t worth very much if they do not fit with your signature style.
Think of it like this. Take a moment and form a mental picture of what you wore the last time you stepped outside of your house. Got it? Now, picture that image of you, up on a gigantic billboard, advertising a big campaign for the whole world to see. How do you feel? Did that image make you grin and say,mac makeup, “Damn, cheap mac makeup, I’d look hot. I’d buy whatever it is that I’m selling.” Or did you cringe?
You should consider what you wear everyday to be your brand, even when you’re throwing on a casual getup to run to the store (not that this always happens…trust me, I’m with you). But, on most occasions when you want to present a positive image of yourself, all of the subtleties from head to toe should blend together to form one solid image that succinctly represents you. And by doing this, you will have all the confidence in the world, because your clothes and your accessories should feel like second skin.
Consider the branding behind Red Tag Crazy. For example, look at the color scheme. The black, white, hot pinks, and pale blues are consistently represented throughout the web site, so nothing ever looks like it is out of place. When you get your lovely RTC package in the mail, you’ve got a gorgeous black box with your clothes wrapped in that same shade of gorgeous pink and white tissue. All of these elements are reinforced to form one identity that instantly makes you think RTC. This is what you need to be striving for when you get dressed every morning.
The good news is that everyone already has a signature style – for whatever reason, you are drawn to a certain look or a certain color. So focus on what attracts you, and work toward fine-tuning to make sure your accessories all mesh well with that image.
Here are some useful tips to consider when developing your brand:
1. What cuts work best with your body? What can you wear that will accentuate your positives?
2. Go dig through your closet and pull out a selection of colored tops. Stand at the mirror and hold them to your face one by one. Which color makes your eyes pop? Which color makes your skin glow? Which colors make your skin look dull and tired? (Throw those out immediately.)
3. What are you like? Are you serious? Quirky? Trendy? Professional? This is a fun exercise. If you don’t feel awkward doing it, ask a friend to show your picture to one of her friends whom you’ve never met (and she can lie and say it’s for a psych experiment). Have them guess at your personality based on what you’re wearing.
4. If you aren’t sure about what you’re projecting, or you can’t seem to figure out what your signature item is, take an informal survey yourself. Ask your friends and family what piece first comes to mind when they think of your style. Are you happy with that answer? If yes, continue fine-tuning. If no, slowly faze out the problem areas and bring other elements in. If the person stares at you blankly and can’t seem to come up with anything, get crackin’! But whatever you do, don’t do it too quickly or all at once.
5. Not all trends are meant to be. If you really want to work a trend into your style, but it doesn’t work well with your body type, feel free to keep it small. If your signature style has done you well, now is not the time to kick it to the curb. Instead, incorporate some of those key colors or prints into a bracelet, wholesale mac makeup, a scarf, your shoes, or a handbag.
6. Next to quality clothing, accessories will be your best friends, so treat them well. If you choose to wear something basic, let your accessories have the spotlight. If your dress is the focal piece, please don’t make your earrings compete.
7. Signature does not mean boring. You should have a solid foundation that you can adapt to reflect your mood or occasion while still representing your essential self. Really, do you like eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day? Well, your body doesn’t like wearing the same black pants and shirt every day, either. Try to think about what you’re projecting, and make sure that you’re putting that forth through your casuals, formals, and business attire consistently, but spice it up.
8. Do you feel confident? Do you feel good? Stick to the items that make you feel tingly inside… if your outfit doesn’t spark a glow or put the pep in your step, it may not be your look. Strive for that feeling every day.
9. Make sure you can handle your shoes. If you cannot walk in those heels, don’t wear them. You will not be confident, you will not be comfortable, and you will obviously not be strutting. People will be staring at your feet and taking bets on whether or not you’re going to fall instead of admiring your stellar outfit. You can practice in the privacy of your own home and work up to 4-inch heels if you’d like, though.
10. Every once in a while, you should re-brand yourself and refresh your image. You are not the same person you were five years ago, and your image shouldn’t be either. The biggest companies, like Coke and Pepsi, for example, re-evaluate their brands and cans every once in a while. You should, too!
So, next time you get dressed, stop and evaluate. Ask yourself, would someone want to buy me? (I mean that in the most non-prostitutish way possible, of course.) I hope the answer is yes. You deserve to look and feel stunning, no matter what your style is!
